Community Connections, Family Safety, and Learning: Highlights from Head Start Community Program of Morris County

The Head Start Community Program of Morris County has been busy creating meaningful experiences for children and families! From welcoming local firefighters into the classroom to promoting family safety and building community partnerships, these recent initiatives highlight the program’s commitment to supporting children and families both inside and outside the classroom.

The New Jersey Head Start Association (NJHSA) is excited to spotlight four recent events that demonstrate the power of community engagement, education, and collaboration.

Learning from Local Heroes: Firefighters Visit Head Start!

It was a day filled with excitement, learning, and plenty of smiles when local firefighters visited the Head Start Community Program of Morris County!

Children had the opportunity to interact with local first responders, learn about the important role firefighters play in keeping their communities safe, and enjoy a memorable experience with some real-life heroes.

Visits like these help introduce young children to community helpers, encourage curiosity, and build positive connections with the people who serve and protect their neighborhoods.

A special thank you to the local fire department for taking the time to connect with the children and inspire the next generation!

Raising Awareness During Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In recognition of October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the program’s Family Services team created an informational display dedicated to raising awareness, sharing important resources, and promoting safe, healthy homes.

The initiative served as a reminder that supporting children also means supporting the well-being and safety of their families.

Head Start programs play an important role in connecting families with resources, strengthening relationships, and fostering environments where children can feel safe, supported, and valued.

Through efforts like this, the Head Start Community Program of Morris County continues to demonstrate its commitment to family well-being and community awareness.

Keeping Little Passengers Safe: Car Seat Safety Event

Safety was also front and center during a special Car Seat Safety Event organized by the program’s Early Head Start Home-Based Visitors.

In partnership with Safe Kids Northern New Jersey and the Town of Dover Police Department, the event provided families with valuable hands-on assistance and resources to help keep their youngest passengers safe.

Certified technicians were on-site to conduct car seat inspections, assist with proper installations, and share essential child passenger safety information.

This initiative reflects the importance of providing families with practical tools and education that support children’s safety beyond the classroom.

A special thank you to Safe Kids Northern New Jersey, the Town of Dover Police Department, and the dedicated Early Head Start Home-Based team for making this important event possible!

Building Connections Through the CCM College Promise Program

The program also welcomed students from the CCM College Promise program for a special visit to the Robert C. Grant Center in Morris Plains.

During their visit, the college students spent time engaging, playing, and connecting with the children, creating a fun and welcoming experience for everyone involved.

The visit offered an opportunity to build relationships across generations while bringing new faces, experiences, and excitement into the children’s day.

Community partnerships like these help create enriching learning environments and demonstrate how meaningful connections can make a lasting impact on young learners.

Celebrating the Power of Community Partnerships

These four events showcase the many ways Head Start programs go beyond early childhood education to support the whole child and the entire family.

Whether it’s introducing children to community heroes, promoting family well-being, providing essential safety resources, or creating opportunities for connection, the Head Start Community Program of Morris County continues to make a positive difference in its community.

The New Jersey Head Start Association proudly recognizes the staff, families, and community partners who helped bring these initiatives to life.

Thank you to the Head Start Community Program of Morris County for sharing these wonderful highlights and for your continued dedication to children, families, and the community!
